I own three down jackets; one for commuting, one for camping and the other for some serious adventures. They are fantastic, I think everyone should have one!!

During last winter, I went and bought a bunch of stuff. I have some concerns I hope you guys can help me with.

I got a down jacket from Columbia (770 insulation fill, 90%down, 10% feather). When I use it at times, it was embarassing to see feather or down presumably from my jacket float around in my wake. Sometimes, when I use it as an inner wear, the feather and down stick to the inner lining of my outer coat (eg outer water proof jacket or parka).

Is this natural or abnormal for my down to loose its feathers and down? Likewise, the 770 insulation fill didnt feel warm or toasty. In fact, i could feel the cold pore through my jacket. in addition, my jacket seemed flat and not as lofty as i expected a high down to feather ratio. I took care of this jacket and it did not get wet at all.

similarly, the thinsulate gloves I got also didnt seem to insulate.

I need your insights and knowledge.
